Area Rugs: Sculpted, Inlay
(BACK)
What is a Sculpted Rug?
Detail, detail and more detail. Cutting the edges around the design in a area rug gives an added dimension that beckons "oohs and ahhs" from all eyes.
What is an inlay in an Area Rug?
An inlay is a set in pattern of separate colors or textures creating a visually tantalizing area rug. The only limit is your imagination.
Backings:
Felt vs Non/skid Reback (BACK)
Backing an area rug
comes out of necessity. When placing an area rug over hardwood, vinyl
composition floors or tile, the rug will either damage the surface or
slip around on the surface. Non/skid is used on small area rugs to keep
the rug from sliding around. Felt is used to protect the surface from
scratches and abrasions and on larger area rugs. Felt is also used when
placing an area rug over existing carpet.
Bas Relief Carving/Sculpturing
Using the tool and sometimes a template, a
design is cut into the field of carpet. This can be freeform or a rigid
defining line, meticulously cut, to complete the pattern. Indiana Rug Co uses both techniques producing magnificently, intricately
designed custom area rugs.
Beveled:
A angled edge is shaved prior to binding. This is used in two areas. In
a formal application or when the material technically requires it. An
extremely clean line for the area rug.
Binding:
A fabric finish to the edge of the carpet done
by machine or hand. Offering a polyester or fiber type of material. Achieve
a different look with the two types of carpet binding depending upon your
decor. The interior designer will assist you to determine which style
is correct--based on colour offerings, size and material.
Borders:
A bordered rug may have an inset piece to the pattern or the bordered
piece may be around the outside of the area rug. Size may vary from one
inch to two feet depending on the proportions of the finished area rug.
Borders lend an artistic dimension using depth, texture, pattern and colour.
Separately, or stacked together, a border can give an area rug the dynamic
punch and desired look one is trying to achieve.
Broadloom:
Loomed carpet constructed out of the newest
generation of nylon, wool, polyester, olefin.
Carving/Sculpturing (BACK)
A special tool used to emphasize the
connecting pieces of a design in a area rug. Carving offers an added dimension
where two pieces of material touch or cross each other. The tool is used
to shave and trim the carpet dramatically affecting the visual appearance.
Carved/Sculptured Inlaid
An area rug with set in design pieces allowing
for endless pattern, dimension, and texture contrasts. Inlaying carpet
is a tedious three step process resulting in an extremely durable, handcrafted,
high end decorative area rug. An inlaid area rug may be used as wall art
or flooring art and can be the focal point or the catalyst, that brings
the area together.
Commercially:
20 years of excellence supplying the demands of the commercial market
using promotional logo signage, monogram lettering, trade show designs
and showroom displays. Small custom rugs can be excellent promotional
tools to market a business or product. A custom inlaid and sculptured
area rug can dramatically enhance any marketing strategy.
